The supraspinatus tendon connects the supraspinatus muscle to the head of your humerus (the long bone in your upper arm). The supraspinatus tendon allows you to raise your arm and pulls the humeral head into the socket of the shoulder joint. The supraspinatus tendon travels through the AC joint where the acromion and clavicle meet in your shoulder. The proximity of the supraspinatus to the AC joint can result in tears of the tendon due to trauma such as automobile collisions. If you have been in automobile collision and you are having any problems with pain or function in your shoulder, then you should have an evaluation of your shoulder by an orthopedist. You want to make sure that you get the necessary care for a shoulder injury, such as physical strengthening in therapy or maybe even surgery, to make sure that you have a healthy shoulder in the future. You should always know the extent of your injuries that are due to automobile collision. You cannot fix a problem until you know the source of the problem.
