Traumatic Brain Injuries Require Immediate Attention

We often discuss aspects of personal injury law on this website. One of those instances that we discuss is traumatic brain injury or TBI for short. Orange County is no stranger to this type of injury. It can happen anywhere at any time. Injuries to the brain can be caused by blows to the head or violent movements such as those that occur in a car accident or slip and fall.

If you are the person that has suffered this type of injury and if it’s serious enough you may not be in a competent state take care of yourself or to get help. That responsibility is going to fall on those around you at the time. It’s to those people that we are addressing this latest post.

You never know when somebody around you is going to experience a brain injury, however, as one of the first people on the scene you should at least be aware of the warning signs. There are many resources online including this website that provide information on what to look for when somebody has suffered a head injury. Warning signs may include that person becoming very sleepy or behaving in a strange her abnormal manner. Their speech may become slurred or nonsensical. That person may complain about a headache or stiffness in the neck region. Other symptoms include seizures.

If you have the opportunity to examine that person’s eyes and the pupils are unequal that may be a sign of TBI. The injured person may be unable to move certain parts of their body like an arm or leg or they may lose consciousness. This loss of consciousness may be very brief, but it is still a warning sign. Vomiting, especially multiple times, is also a warning sign.

If you’re on the scene when an accident occurs it may be up to you to provide the initial care for those injured people. That may be as simple as simply dialing 911 which is always a good first step in assuring that the injured parties receive medical care as quickly as possible. This is especially important in cases of traumatic brain injury.
