Car Crash Lawyer Finds City’s Rate Lower Than Orange County Average
As a car accident attorney I’ve dealt with my share of heartbreaking details. It’s never pleasant when a car crash turns fatal. However, if there’s any silver lining to the car accident statistics here in Orange County it’s that Tustin seems to have a lower incidence of fatal car accidents than our neighboring cities.
City-Data is a website concerned with all aspects of a particular city—any city. The data collected can be about demographics, real estate, climate or—in this case—traffic accidents. Taking a look at the page for Tustin, we can see about 5-7 fatal traffic accidents per year. One is too many, but compared to other nearby areas we are below average.

The element that brought this to my attention was the City-Data map showing the location of each fatal accident in the region. Even a cursory glance reveals that Tustin appears empty of fatalities compared to Santa Ana or Irvine. Indeed, a check on City-Data for Santa Ana’s statistics shows an almost double or quadruple rate of fatal traffic accidents (depending on the year) compared to Tustin (from 12 – 24 fatalities).
If I can call this a bright spot—that Tustin has a lower fatality rate than its neighbors—it doesn’t mean that we living in Tustin are necessarily safer than our Orange County neighbors. We all have to venture out of our own community at some point, meaning the statistics only apply to us when we’re in a particular city. A trip to Santa Ana (which most of us make quite often) means we’d be statistically more prone to traffic accidents than if we had remained in Tustin.
