It is bordered by Irvine, Santa Ana, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. It’s one of Orange County’s most industrious cities and home to manufacturing, retail and commerce. The population of Costa Mesa is around 113,000.

Closer to the ocean than other Orange County cities, Costa Mesa enjoys a temperate climate with temperatures ranging from the mid-40s in winter to the mid-80s especially in August, traditionally the hottest month.

History Of Costa Mesa California

Like the other cities in Orange County, Costa Mesa’s land was a part of Alta California following Gaspar de Portola’s 1769 expedition. Specifically in the early 1800s the land where Costa Mesa now sits was part of Jose Antonio Yorba’s Rancho San Antonio which was a grant from the Spanish crown.

Origins of Costa Mesa

In the late 1800s towns in Orange County grew thanks to the railroad lines servicing the area. The original name of the city was Harper, but was changed in 1920 to Costa Mesa.
