Laguna Beach is situated in Orange County, California, United States on the Pacific coast. As a coastal community it includes 27 beaches and coves along its 7 mile waterfront. It is bordered by Mission Viejo, Laguna Woods to the northeast, Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel to the east, Newport Beach and Crystal Cove State Park to the northwest and Dana Point to the southeast.
Laguna Beach has attracted many artists and is known worldwide for its Laguna Arts Festival and Pageant of the Masters. Because it’s a beach city it’s also well known to surfers.
Located on the Pacific Ocean, the average temperatures do not vary much from season to season and range from the low 60s in winter to 70s in the summer. However, record temperatures have been recorded in excess of 100 degrees.

History Of Laguna Beach California
Laguna Beach’s history goes back thousands of years and it was the site of a paleoindian civilization, but like most of Orange County records date back to the time of the Spanish expedition Gaspar de Portol (1769). Gabrieleno Indians were the inhabitants when explorers first discovered the area in the 1500s. In the 1850s the Mexican government (then in control of California) named the area Canada de las Lagunas (which means glen of the lagoons). The name Laguna has been associated with the area ever since. After the Mexican American War and the American Civil War, settlers found their way to this area and began to build up. In the 20s and onward artists and film industry people found a home in the area—a practice which still takes place today. In 1993 a devastating fire destroyed over 400 homes and burned more than 14,000 acres.

Origins of Laguna Beach
With the arrival of settlers in the later 1800s the town steadily grew until residents sought incorporation in the 1920s. The town was officially incorporated in 1927. In the early 1900s the spot became a notable tourist destination and attracted hotel developers like Hubbard Goff. Painters like Edgar Payne frequented the area for its beauty and Laguna Beach remains a popular artist destination to the present day. Silent films were also made in the area since it Laguna is relatively close to Hollywood. Some notable stars included Harold Lloyd and Mary Pickford.
