How the firm helps in Aliso Viejo
Aliso Viejo injuries happen on the 73, along the city’s parkways, and on the trails at its edge.
Aliso Viejo is a master-planned city that the 73 toll road crosses. Aliso Creek Road, Pacific Park Drive, Aliso Viejo Parkway, Glenwood Drive, and Alicia Parkway carry local traffic past the Aliso Viejo Town Center and the offices along Enterprise. Much of the city’s open space is not city-run: the city says the Aliso Viejo Community Association administers landscape maintenance of most slopes, medians, and parks, and the city owns Iglesia Park. The claims that follow are freeway and intersection crashes, bicycle and e-bike collisions, falls at stores, offices, and association common areas, and trail accidents, and the most serious of them involve brain and spinal cord injuries.
Kyle Scott Law represents Aliso Viejo clients from its office in Tustin, reached by the 5; the firm has no Aliso Viejo office. Every claim starts with a free, confidential review of what happened, who owned or maintained the spot (the City of Aliso Viejo, the County of Orange, the community association or a neighborhood association, a school district, or a business), which insurance applies, and which deadlines are already running.
Brain and spinal cord injuries
A head strike in a crash on the 73, a fall onto concrete outside a store, or an e-bike rider thrown onto Aliso Creek Road can cause a concussion, a skull fracture, or a spinal cord injury. Some concussion symptoms appear right away and others may not for hours or days, so prompt medical care and complete follow-up records matter. The claim has to account for future care, lost earning capacity, and help at home.
Falls at the Town Center, offices, and common areas
Aliso Viejo property has very different owners: stores and restaurants answer for their own premises, most parks, slopes, and medians are maintained by the community association, Iglesia Park and the public streets are the city’s, and campuses belong to Capistrano Unified or Saddleback Valley Unified. A fall claim turns on what the hazard was, who controlled it, and how long it had been there (Civil Code § 1714).
The 73 and the parkways
Crashes on the 73, the San Joaquin Hills toll road, are handled by the California Highway Patrol’s Capistrano Area office; collisions on city streets go to Aliso Viejo Police Services, which the city provides through the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The city’s 2026 engineering and traffic survey identified “safety corridors” and recommended lower speed limits on some segments. When fault is disputed, a driver, rider, or pedestrian found partly at fault can still recover, reduced by that share (CACI No. 405).
Aliso and Wood Canyons and other public land
Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park is under the jurisdiction of OC Parks, with trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. California law generally shields public entities from liability for injuries caused by the condition of a recreational trail (Government Code § 831.4), so a trail injury needs a careful look at exactly what caused it. A written government claim for an injury on other public property is generally due within six months (Government Code § 911.2).

Courts, hospitals, and reports
Where an Aliso Viejo case actually happens.
The facts of a claim live in specific places: the courthouse where it would be filed, the hospitals that hold the treatment records, and the agencies that wrote the report. Knowing them from day one shortens everything that follows.

Common questions
Questions from Aliso Viejo clients.
Can a “mild” concussion from an Aliso Viejo crash or fall still be a serious claim?
It can. The CDC notes that some concussion symptoms appear right away while others may not appear for hours or days, so get checked promptly, keep every follow-up appointment, and write down symptoms as they show up. A brain or spinal cord injury claim is valued on the whole course of recovery, including future care and lost earning capacity, so the firm works to understand that picture before any settlement discussion.
I fell in an Aliso Viejo park or common area. Who is responsible?
It depends on who owns and maintains the spot. The city says the Aliso Viejo Community Association maintains most slopes, medians, and parks, while the city owns Iglesia Park; stores and restaurants are responsible for their own premises; and Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park is under the jurisdiction of OC Parks. A claim against the city, the County, or a school district generally must be presented within six months, so the exact location, photos, and any incident report are gathered first.
I was hurt on a trail in Aliso and Wood Canyons. Do I have a claim?
Possibly, but trail cases are different. California Government Code section 831.4 generally protects public entities from liability for injuries caused by the condition of a trail used for hiking, riding, and similar recreation. Someone else may still be responsible, such as another rider, a driver, or the maker of a defective bike or helmet, so the cause of the injury is pinned down first. Any claim against the County generally must be presented within six months.
How do I get the report for a crash in Aliso Viejo?
It depends on where the crash happened. Collisions on city streets are handled by Aliso Viejo Police Services, part of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, and the Sheriff’s Records unit releases collision reports to the people involved, their insurers, and their attorneys. Crashes on the 73 are handled by the California Highway Patrol’s Capistrano Area office. Keep the report number you were given at the scene.
How long do I have to bring a claim?
For most injury lawsuits, two years from the injury (Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1). A claim against a public entity comes first and has a much shorter clock: if the City of Aliso Viejo, the County of Orange, or a school district may be responsible, a written government claim is generally due within six months (Government Code section 911.2). Claims against a doctor or hospital follow a separate rule with its own time limits (Code of Civil Procedure section 340.5).
Do I need to come to the Tustin office?
No. Kyle Scott Law has no office in Aliso Viejo; it represents Aliso Viejo clients from 17671 Irvine Blvd. in Tustin. The first consultation is free and can be by phone or video, in English or Spanish, and in-person meetings are arranged whenever a case calls for it.
