Okay, so you chose an attorney based upon an ad in the phone book or on t.v., or maybe even because your co-worker recommended the attorney. It has been a few weeks now and you are not getting the level of attention that you expected. You thought you could ask the attorney and his staff advice on how to best proceed with your case. Instead you get a voicemail message. You thought you could ask your attorney if there was a medical test you could have to determine the cause of the tingling in your hand, but you seem to get little response from your attorney. What can you do?

Well you can hire a new attorney. While I would always prefer to be the only attorney that has represented my clients, many times I am not. Potential clients come to me because they are not satisfied with their current attorney. The attorney or law firm did not give them or their case enough attention. Or they were told that they had to obtain their own medical records or arrange their own medical care. Or the attorney just did not have enough time to really work up their case. Whatever the reason, you have options.

Talk to another attorney and express your concerns that you are having with your current attorney. Many times a potential client needs something explained to them that the attorney has failed to explain. Sometimes a new attorney does not change the challenges of your claim. There may be a liability or damages issue that will have to be addressed no matter who is your attorney. But you must have faith in the person that is representing you.

As the client, you are paying for the attorney’s services, even if you are not paying until the case settles. As the client you have the right to be satisfied with the communication between your attorney and yourself. Only when you are working together with your attorney can you feel confident in the result no matter how it shakes out. So if you are not satisfied with your current attorney, call up a competent attorney in the area of your claim, personal injury, family law, business. Talk to the potential new attorney and express your concerns. If you get the right answers and you and the new attorney think you can be successful in pursuing your claim then there is no reason you cannot change attorneys.
